Door Tag Information

CODES ( Related to the Talladega)

Both cars were originally sold by Wray Ford in Shreveport, LA.  So why are there two DSO codes?  According to Marti Auto Reports, a company known as Dull-Hobbs owned a chain dealerships in several districts. The two cars were probably ordered for two different dealerships and sold by Wray Ford.  Who really knows?

The way a Talladega earns its’ door tags is an interesting story in itself. It wasn’t as simple as most other vehicles where the DSO was assigned to an ordering district and model ordering code. The information below refers to my cars and may not reflect the information of ALL Talladegas.

Most have a DSO of 892500. The 2500 is the order code for the Talladega package.  It also refers to the manual which outlined in detail the changes to be made to the stock Torino Cobra to become the Talladega.  Rick Ochs has provided me with a couple of pages from the manual that show guidelines and part numbers to be deleted and then added. It also refers to government crash tests conducted due to the structural changes made. (rocker panels)

Most Talladegas retain their 892500 DSO tags.  Not every Talladega has an 892500 DSO.  One in particular was built for the president of Ford.  It has a DSO of 332500 and sports a yellow paint scheme.  Since the Talladega was a special built car and had longer fenders than most, special handling of the cars were required when loading onto trucks and rail cars.  That is where the 89 comes in. The first two numbers are for the district for which it was ordered.  In the case of my two cars, both tags have a DSO of 892500.

When looking at the Ford database for warranty information or purchasing a Marti Report, it may show the DSO as 632500 or 642500 (Memphis & New Orleans ordering districts). This information is not wrong, but it is what was registered when the car was sold from the dealership.

People that have done a lot of research have found much interesting information regarding the Talladega and its’ door tag information.  The people who know best are folks like Banjo Mathews and shops like Holman/Moody and Bud Moore.

Another feature of the door tag is that it will indicate it is a special performance vehicle.
